Roots

I grew up in Houston, Texas (yeehaw), where the air is so thick and warm you could practically spread it on a cracker, and have been passionate about making things since I was old enough to hold the tools that would allow me to do so. As the resident tech-wizard growing up in my parents’ home, I took to digital graphics of all manner at an early age. Eventually, this would lead me to study Graphic Design at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas and graduate with a BFA in 2017.

The beginning of an ever-evolving design career

In the following years I held two full-time design positions, during one of which I developed an intense fascination with product design and, eager to shed the—what I then viewed as— restrictive grasp of agency work, set off on my own. I began freelancing in graphic design while still in Houston and, inhaling every bit of UX- and/or UI-related information I could get my hands on, gradually expanded my services to include small UX and UI tasks.

I moved to Berlin in July 2019 and continued freelancing, this time with a focus on digital product design, the following September. Over the past five years I have been extremely fortunate to work with some fantastic teams and individuals on a seriously diverse range of products and have learned a tremendous amount in doing so.

Why I am stopping freelancing

Two reasons:

  1. Becoming a better designer is extremely important to me. As a freelancer, however, the amount that I can learn is limited to information I consume (in my own time) and apply on my next project. Very rarely have I been so integrated in a team that I have been able to learn a significant amount from those around me. With that said, I feel that I have stagnated as a designer and am extraordinarily eager to continue growing as a designer.

  2. Freelancing is requires a lot of extra work that I would rather dedicate to other creative projects
